Palo Santo/Smudge/White Sage

Palo Santo or ‘Holy Wood’ is harvested in Peru by our supplier who works under strict government regulations that are closely monitored.

The timber only works as a sacred wood if it has had a natural deathand is collected after 4 years of the tree falling.

It needs this time frame before the real properties of the tree manifest.

The document for special area collection is called the “Guia Forestal” or Forest Document.It is required to export Palo Santo, along with various other permits from the Ministry of Agriculture.Only after all permits and documents are in place, is our supplier then able to pick up dead timber from authorised areas.

No random cutting down of living trees is permitted in any way and heavy fines/imprisonment can apply.

The picked up timbers are then taken and cut into small pieces by local people and this helps support their villages in 3^rd world locations.

Our USA supplier has been working closely with local families in the coastal mountains of Southern California for many years with the sustainable harvesting of white sage (Salvinia Apiana) from legally  approved harvesting areas and in conjuction with the correct approval/regulatory guidelines of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

All the pickers are required to be certified in compliance with California law.

The sage is wild picked and 'trimmed' off the bushes so as they can continue to grow and be re-harvested. The lengths are then carefully handcrafted and tied into the various sizes for marketing.

Our Australian supplier in the Snowy Mountains region has a large farm in a valley with cold winters that the sage thrives on. No chemical sprays are used at all - it is grown naturally and hand picked.
